Ecclesiastical Art and Architecture demonstrates the wonder of God’s creation and the dignity of humankind. Our mission is to promote and to stimulate appreciation for a unique historical collection of architectural drawings and fine art designs through access, education and limited release of this archive. Detroit Sacred Art Foundation is dedicated to the preservation, education and celebration of the ecclesiastical works of Diehl & Diehl Architects, Inc. (1923-1994) and Detroit Stained Glass Works, Michigan’s pioneering stained glass makers (1861-1970). These two family-run businesses collaborated in creating inspiring places of worship across Michigan and the Midwest. The two families not only were united in their pursuit of exceptional art and craftsmanship. They were united in love through the marriage of Detroit church architect Gerald G. Diehl and Marie Josephine Irving, whose family brought stained glass artistry to Detroit. As their descendants, we strive to preserve and share their legacy and creativity.
